Facebook Announces Privacy Redesign

Today I got following mail from Facebook for their Privacy Redesign -

Hi,
Facebook will roll out changes today that will make it easier for our users to understand and control their privacy settings. As this change will have an impact on our users, we wanted to let you, a valued advertising partner, know about it. Please note that this change will not affect your advertising campaigns and there is no action required on your part.

Facebook is a company that moves quickly, constantly innovating and launching new products to improve the user experience. The feedback we heard from users was that in our efforts to innovate, some of our privacy settings h ad become confusing.

We believe in listening to our users and taking their feedback into account whenever possible. We think the following changes address these concerns by providing users with more control over their privacy settings and making them more simple to use.

Starting today, Facebook will:

Provide an easy-to-use “master” control that enables users to set who can see the content they share through Facebook. This enables users to choose, with just one click, the overall privacy level they’re comfortable with for the content they share on Facebook. Of course, users can still use all of the granular controls we’ve always offered, if they wish.

Significantly reduce the amount of information that must be visible to everyone on Facebook. Facebook will no longer require that users’ friends and connections are visible to everyone. Only Name, Profile Picture, Networks and Gender must be publicly available. Users can opt to make all other connections private.

Make it simple to control whether other applications and websites access any user information. While a majority of our users love Facebook apps and Facebook-enhanced websites, some may prefer not to share their information outside of Facebook. Users can now opt out with just one click.

This is no secret that Facebook is growing like anything it has got more than 400 million active users and 50% of our active users log on to Facebook in any given day and some people predicted that it’ll cross 700 million by the end of the 2010 and If I’m not wrong than total internet users in world is around 1.9 billion that makes 37% of total net users using Facebook well the percentage ain’t looking big but the number 700 million is huge which means that world will be divided into two halves inside Facebook and outside Facebook which makes Facebook next big thing after Google. How to Download Facebook Video with a click

One of my Facebook friend sent me a link of most amazing video I’ve ever seen, which I wanted to share with my other non facebook user friends, now the problem with facebook videos is that you can not share it with non facebook users. So I tried to find video in youtube with same title but tough luck.

Later I decided to download it from facebook and upload it on youtube.
In the course i found a very good site (downfacebook) with the help of that I can download videos from facebook.

All you need to do is to copy the link of Facebook Video from address bar.
Paste that link on space provided at downfacebook.com and then click download video.
At right side you’ll find - Right-click this link and select “Save as…”
Now you can upload it on youtube and share with your friends.

How to delete Facebook account permanently

Today my friend asked me

“ how to delete FB acount permanenetly?”

I said “goto settings-account settings- Deactivate Account”

then she said “that only does the de-activation, becomes active when again clicked… wanna remove permanenetly”

Then I find following link to delete your Facebook account permanently

Go to this page:

http://www.facebook.com/help/contact.php?show_form=delete_account

Click “Submit” and follow the instructions.

Your account will be deactivated for two weeks, and if you don’t log in during that period, your account is permanently deleted.

This method is official and should be complete, i.e. no need to delete individual photos, comments, messages or items from your profile or anywhere else on Facebook!

How to make two Facebook usernames for single profile

Today Ive created my Facebook username www.facebook.com/rajesh.rana, at first I intended to make rajeshrana, but it was showing unavailable later I found that facebook does not read “.” (dots).

like if you open http://www.facebook.com/raj.esh.ra.na then you’ll be lead to same page of my above profile

first I felt there is some bug cause I’ve got two user names for similar profile but later I found that facebook just can’t read dots in between the usernames.

So once you select an username for yourself you’ll automatically end up with two or more usernames apparently distinguish by dots.

Today I was chatting with my friend through facebook who recently joined it, she was telling me how Birmingham City University is offering a course on how to use Facebook and Twitter only for £4,400 first I didn’t believe her cause I know facebook fever is going high but £4,400 is too high to get that fever.

Later when I went through that news which was published on Pune Mirror I was confirmed that yes they are teaching how to use Facebook and other social media but as communicationa and marketing tools and lot more with MA degree in Social Media

“During the course we will consider what people can do on Facebook and Twitter, and how they can be used for communication and marketing purposes.”

“There has been significant interest in the course already, and it will definitely appeal to students looking to go into professions including journalism and PR” “

Meanwhile if you really want to learn how to use facebook then here I’ll provide few tips and links to learn.

I searched through the Google and I found plenty of search results which will teach you how to use it. The only problem that most people face learning facebook is that they don’t want to put their effort to learn. One of my friend keep asking “Is there a book to learn how to use facebook” and keep making excuses that

- Facebook is complicated than Orkut.

- It is not use friendly.

- They keep changing their user interface.

- there is too many confusing things games, applets and addons.

and tons of other excuses
