[How To] Block Unwanted/SPAM Emails at Gmail Account

One of my friend asked -

“Hi rajesh.. how do u block unwanted email at gmail account? the steps please. not spam i just want to block it Foreverrr… drives me crazy thanks thanks…”

I often get this question by many of my friends So I thought I must share solutions with everyone.

I replied her -
[Read following in dramatic way ]

“Congratulations Today is your lucky day, As today you are going to break free of SPAM. Yes SPAM free life.“

Here are different Solutions-
1. Smart Labels -

Go to Mail Settings
Click Labs
Look for “Smart Labels”
Click Enable
Go down and Save Changes.

- What happens is your all uncessary mails will go to different smart labels/folders.
- Now go to each Label i.e. Bulk, Forums, Notifications etc, check at right side top you’ll find “Archive incoming Forums (skip the Inbox)” just enable to stop mails appearing them in inbox.
- I know it is not exactly what u are looking for but trust me it’ll reduce your 50% of your headache.

2. Filters -
Whenever you receive such mails

Select that mail
Click More
Click “Filter Massages like these”
Click Next Step
If you don’t want any more mails from that email address then simply select “delete” option
and Click Create Filter.

- Now all your mails from that email ID will be directly deleted.
- You can try with various filters options.

3. Simply Unsubscribe -
Many times our email address get automatically subscribed to many newsletters and other similar services in various ways which I will expalin some other day but the point is if you receive such mails then simply open that mail and find unsubscribe link and unsubscribe yourself. This way you can reduce your unwanted mails by 30%

4. Precaution -
From next time use some other email address to signup new services. As you may like to keep your personal email ID simply for personal use. I can understand how outrageous you feel when you check your inbox in 5-6 days gap and find filled with 200-300 mails and 90% of them are unwanted.

How to switch back to old Facebook chat or Hide Sidebar chat permanently?

It seems it’s not only me but all 750 million Facebook users hates new sidebar chat of Facebook.

There are solid reasons why I hate it -

1. It shows offline friends – Why the hell they show offline friends if we can not chat them, than what is the meanning of chat box if we can not chat them? is it some kind of most frequent friends showcase box?

2. It never goes off – Although they have provided hideout button but when you click someone to chat if again comes out.

I want to switch back to my old FB chat and so do my all friends but problem is FB hasn’t gave any option to switch back I was so sick of it I stopped chatting in Facebook with my friends.

Then Miracle Happened – Yesterday I was hitting some buttons on keyboard and suddenly the sidebar chat goes off I was like wow how did it happened then I repeated the drill few more times and find the secret keys to turn off sidebar chat permanently -

Secret Formula to Kick ass of Facebook sidebar chat -

Those who are fed up with sidebar chat box of Facebook just hit the two button keys simultaneously Ctrl+= twice

i.e. hit 'Ctrl' and '=' buttons for twice and see the magic

and if you really wanna switch back to sidebar chat which I never ever want to just hit Ctrl+0.

God it’s such a relief to switch back.

Now how to find all the Friends who are online?

Well you can go to https://www.facebook.com/presence/popout.php and chat with them but for that you have remain online in your main chat box

Only one issue with this trick is your fonts get bigger, well there are 3 solutions to bring back the sizes to nomal -

1. Use ctrl + Mouse scroll to zoom in zoom out

2. Go to menu options of your browser and find Zoom+- option

3. or open google.com and hit ctrl+0 buttons (see Google always rocks )

Another trick to Disable Facebook Chat Sidebar

If you use Firefox, Chrome or Opera browser then, you just need to install ‘Sidebar Disabler’ extension. Which will help you to disable Chat Sidebar and return to the old Facebook Chat.

Install ‘Sidebar Chat Disabler’ for -

There are many loopholes in Google plus to join it which Google is constantly finding and blocking these loopholes.

Those which still working are -

1. Download the Chrome app from Chrome Store on Google Chrome. Install and click on the icon on Chrome and you will be redirected to the sign-up page of Google+.

2. Another workaround is : https://plus.google.com/u/0/me; That’s the link to your own profile while logging in to Google+. That link may take you to a sign up page.

How to run Canon CanoScan Lide 110/210 Scanner in Ubuntu

Yesterday I bought Canon’s CanoScan Lide 110 Scanner and today when I tried to run it on Ubuntu 10.10 I found an error, which said “Failed to Scan, No Scanners Available, Please connect a scanner” I was like WTH but one thing I like about Ubuntu is that whatever problem you face you can Google it’s solution it’s community support is really awesome.

So I found the solution for it. Just open your terminal and hit following command lines, restart your system and you are done.

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:plaxx/random-fixes $ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install libsane sane-utils

How to Speed Up Slow start of LibreOffice?

Recently I switched to LibreOffice from OpenOffice due it’s compatibility issues with MS Office XML docs and it’s slow development process as a result of Sun Microsystems acquisition by Oracle.

I was so happy to swtich over but later I really got pissed off cause it takes too much time to start, takes alomost 10-15 seconds to go away it’s spalsh screen.

So today I tried to find out how to speed up and thankfully It’s really simple to do that -

Just -

Start LibreOffice Writer
Goto Tools>Options
Click on Memory
Check Enable Systray Quickstarter
Now reopen your LibreOffice
You are done

How to Resize Multiple Images in one Click in Ubuntu

Yesterday I went to Nassocom Emergeout Conclave for Startups, I clicked almost zillions of images and today when I tried to upload them in Facebook it gave me tough time cause of huge size so I thought lets resize it but there were so many images which would take me ages. When I Googled I found following method to resize multiple images in one go.

Here is an awesome way to resize zillions of images in one go-

1. Install imagemagick from Ubuntu Software Center
Or, in the terminal:
sudo apt-get install imagemagick

2. Put all your image files in a single directory/folder.

3. Open a terminal and go to this directory/folder:
cd

like I put my folder (named ”small”) in desktop so you can type

cd ~/Desktop/small

4. To resize all your images enter following command.

example – With following command, all of the images will be reduced to 50% ratio.

mogrify -resize 50% -format jpg *

Where -format jpg specifies: the resultant format will be JPG.

You can also specify width and height by the following command:

mogrify -resize 800x600 -format jpg *

Today I was looking for the exact date of my Joining Facebook and I didn’t find any answer Then I tried following two approaches -

1. Find the Joining confirmation Mail from Facebook – I got my exact Joining Date and Time
2. First Profile Image – I have already deleted that

How to Update/Clear link Description Cached in Facebook?

Recently I encountered a very unique problem,When I tried to share a link in Facebook it was showing it’s old description instead of latest description from the link.

How Facebook select description for your link?
When a link is shared in Facebook the description of the page is cached by facebook and the same description is used every time the link is shared again.

So the problem is, if you change the description of your page and want that changes to reflect on description of the link that you want to share with world then it won’t reflect because a cache of the old description is stored with facebook.

So, How to Update/Clear link Description Cached in Facebook?
Solution is use following tool to see the stats of the link and also update the old cached data.

How to allow Fans to Tag photos in Facebook Fan Page

I keep getting this query, It’s very simple just follow following steps -

1) Go to your Facebook Page.

2) Directly below your Page’s Profile photo, click on “Edit Page”.

3) In your browser’s URL, note the number that comes AFTER ‘edit/?id=’
That number is your Page ID.

4) Go to this URL, but change REPLACEMENT to your Page ID from step 3:

http://www.facebook.com/pages/edit/app_settings.php?id=REPLACEMENT&aid=2305272732

5) Click the setting for “Allow All Fans to Tag Photos”

6) Save your settings.

In case anyone wants to know why this works, all it is doing is accessing the “Photo Application” settings by using the Application ID (the Facebook Photos Application ID is ’2305272732′).

Open Kaspersky>Settings>Options, Uncheck ‘Enable Self Defense’ option.
Click Ok and Exit from Kaspersky.
Goto C:\Program Files\Kaspersky Lab\Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010\Skin\loc
You’ll see 2 folders “en” and “sch”. Rename en to sch & sch to en and Restart your computer.
