[How To] Block Unwanted/SPAM Emails at Gmail Account

One of my friend asked -

“Hi rajesh.. how do u block unwanted email at gmail account? the steps please. not spam i just want to block it Foreverrr… drives me crazy thanks thanks…”

I often get this question by many of my friends So I thought I must share solutions with everyone.

I replied her -
[Read following in dramatic way ]

“Congratulations Today is your lucky day, As today you are going to break free of SPAM. Yes SPAM free life.“

Here are different Solutions-
1. Smart Labels -

Go to Mail Settings
Click Labs
Look for “Smart Labels”
Click Enable
Go down and Save Changes.

- What happens is your all uncessary mails will go to different smart labels/folders.
- Now go to each Label i.e. Bulk, Forums, Notifications etc, check at right side top you’ll find “Archive incoming Forums (skip the Inbox)” just enable to stop mails appearing them in inbox.
- I know it is not exactly what u are looking for but trust me it’ll reduce your 50% of your headache.

2. Filters -
Whenever you receive such mails

Select that mail
Click More
Click “Filter Massages like these”
Click Next Step
If you don’t want any more mails from that email address then simply select “delete” option
and Click Create Filter.

- Now all your mails from that email ID will be directly deleted.
- You can try with various filters options.

3. Simply Unsubscribe -
Many times our email address get automatically subscribed to many newsletters and other similar services in various ways which I will expalin some other day but the point is if you receive such mails then simply open that mail and find unsubscribe link and unsubscribe yourself. This way you can reduce your unwanted mails by 30%

4. Precaution -
From next time use some other email address to signup new services. As you may like to keep your personal email ID simply for personal use. I can understand how outrageous you feel when you check your inbox in 5-6 days gap and find filled with 200-300 mails and 90% of them are unwanted.

Here is a quick tips on how to set up your domain name email address with Google Apps so that you can use powerful gmail as exam...@example.com

Step 1:

GoTo https://www.google.com/a/cpanel/domain/new
Add your domain name (website)
Sign up for Google Apps - Your Name, Your Organization, how many users, etc…

Step 2:
Setup the Primary Master account – Username and password

Step 3: Google Apps setup wizard.

You need to verify that you own the domain. For this you can choose any one from the options. :

Add a DNS record to your domain configuration.
Link to your Google Analytics account if you are already set up there.
Upload an HTML file to your server.
Add a meta tag to your site’s home page.

Just click Next, Next, Next and follow the instructions

Step 4: Activate your email.

Select your host site from the drop down menu to get instructions for changing your MX records. Log into your host, and follow the steps through completely. Then click on “I have completed these steps” at the bottom.
Once your MX records are official and correct,

Go to your Google Apps home page and sign in. Click on “Organization and Users” on the top navigation menu, and then “Create New User.”
Add the name and email that you want, and continue to do this for as many emails as you wish to set up (up to 10 with this free version of google apps).

You can log into your email from http://mail.google.com/a/yourdomainname/ or from setup section you can create a custom login url like mail.example.com.

How to Renew Domain Name bought via Google Apps

Today I got following mail about how to renew domain name (Bought from Google Apps) and I keep on getting such mails from my friends so I thought of writing a tutorial to help them.

Simple steps of “How to Renew Domain Name bought via Google Apps”

Step 1 -

Goto www.google.com/a/your-domian-name eg http://www.google.com/a/rajeshrana.net,
Login to you Google apps admin, if you have forgot your password then check this to how you can recover Google admin Apps password.
Goto Domain setting>Domain Names
Make sure you have checked “Automatically renew domain registration every year ” option.

Step 2 –

Login to Google.com/accounts with your Gmail account with which you’d registered your domain name (generally it’s your personal gmail email address).
Click Checkout

Step 3 -

Check for your Default payment method
If it’s there then click on edit payment method (If it’s not there then add new payment method)

Step 4 -

Check for payment method if it’s correct
Make sure that your payment method like your (credit card detail) is current and working one

I Just figured it out!!!

Although it was launched 2 months back but I always thought it is based on invitation basis and only for selected silicon valley’s Geeks, but today I figured out that everybody can use it, the only catch is that for the time being it is bundled with Google product only (Google Chrome/Feedburner/Google Toolbar)

I don’t use Google toolbar as it is only available for Internet Explorer and Firefox. So for me best way to use Google URL Shortener is to use it with Chrome.

For that you need Google Chrome and Chrome Extensions, Once you install Chrome extension for Google URL Shortener, you can create Goo.gl short URLs with a simple click.

How to Delete Gmail Account

Last night my friend called me and asked how to delete a Gmail Account, I said why you needed to delete an account if somebody is bothering you then just block him or redirect his mails to trash, but she said Nooo…. I want to delete my account So I said fine here it is how to delete a Gmail account -

Six Steps to Delete Gmail Account -

Login to your Gmail account which want to deactivate
Goto Settings (at the top right bar)
then click Accounts and Import
at the bottom click Google Account settings
click edit at My products
Then click Remove Gmail permanently

Your Gmail account will be closed in 2 business days

Similaryly you can choose to deactivate following services

If you want to delete your Google account then click

Close account and delete all services and info associated with it

Note: If you are logged in your Google account then please do not click any of link above or else you’ll deactivate any of your services.

How to insert image in your mail : try Gmail

Finally gmail arrived with an option to insert your image inside your main mail body before that I got to do that with Outlook express or incredimail.

Well, it’s about time. You no longer have to use workarounds to put images into your messages or attach images when you really want to inline them. Just turn on “Inserting images” from the Labs tab under Settings, and you’ll see a new toolbar icon like this:

Make sure you’re in rich formatting mode, or it won’t show up. Click the little image icon, and you can insert images in two ways: by uploading image files from your computer or providing image URLs.

Just now I was searching something on Google, as I typed the keywords and enter, I found all results tagged with This site may harm your computer.

1st thought almighty Google saved me, but again when I searched something else the result was tagged with the same warning then I searched Google, guess what …. then I thought may be Google chrome has got some problem so I tried in Firefox but it was all same.

I don’t know whats the problem may be there is something problem in my computer or may be Google going Nuts.
